“Pie Off” Results

Well, it turns out cousin Debi and I are both pretty awesome at baking pies.

She made a lemon meringue,IMG_8354

AND a butterscotch. Cheater.IMG_8355

I made another one of the Martha Stewart spiced apple pies, that I tested out the other day. This time, if I may toot my own horn, I NAILED it. The pastry was perfect and I tented it with foil to prevent the crust from getting too brown.

On to the taste test.

Cousin Darcy gave the butterscotch two thumbs up.IMG_8388

Cousin Meredith had a bite of apple,IMG_8373

and rubbed her tummy with delight.IMG_8375

Cousin Jannah had to have a moment after tasting the apple pie. IMG_8376

Uncle Arnie also loved the pie, and had a little friend that was watching him the whole time. That’s Andrew in the background eating a piece of lemon, and apparently enjoying it tremendously. Where’s the loyalty? :)

Ellie was looking on with her best “I’m starving” face, but dogs don’t like pie.

Jersey would have loved her mama’s apple pie, but her mama was too paranoid that Jersey was going to scratch Debi’s new dark hardwood floors so she hung out outside.

There was no real winner in the “pie off'” but we had a lot of fun trash talking and eating the pie. All for the love of family.IMG_8361

Now, here’s my question to all you pie bakers.

Does your pastry have lard or butter? Mine (well, Martha’s) had butter and Debi’s recipe (from the Tenderflake box) had lard. Both tasted awesome. What’s the difference?

How fun. I'm sure when I read this I had the same look on my face as the pup. :) Have a great week.

Well.....not sure what's the diff but my Mom always used tenderflake...and so I carry on this tradition when making her famous apple pie recipe....handed down from my Grandma ;)

Good pics Amy, thanks for sharing.
