Confession: I’ve fallen off my self imposed “No Starbucks” band wagon.
Just when I got my palette retrained to tolerate like the slop that is Tim Horton’s, iced coffee season came along.
The evidence is all over my house.![]()
It wouldn’t be too bad if I was addicted to the $1 iced-coffees at McDonalds. But this summer, they only have the medium available at $1. Not enough for me.
The venti iced coffee at Starbucks is $3.45. And I’ve had about 8 of them in the last 10 days.
I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands. I needed to arm myself with the tools to nip my iced-coffee-addiction in the bud.
Step one: Locating my coffee pot in the scary unfinished part of the basement.
Every-so-often, Andrew and I have a discussion that goes something like “Hey, have you seen ____________ since we moved?”. We really only unpacked the things we needed. I remembered that I was contemplating donating my coffee maker, since I primarily use my Keurig to make coffee. I was happy to find my coffee pot sitting sitting out in plain site!
I bought some delicious coffee at Starbucks – which should prove to make some delicious iced coffee. “Cocoa and soft spice”… sounds good to me.
I was also able to successfully locate my official “iced coffee” jug.
…and my official “iced coffee transporting device”.![]()
Added bonus? My new fridge has an ice maker. No need for ice cube trays this summer. Score!
I will stop spending all my hard earned pennies on iced coffee. I promise.
I will make my own.
I think I can. I think I can.

You can do it! I make iced coffee all the time & actually prefer mine over Starbucks.
The Pioneer Woman had a good tutorial on making iced coffee last summer - no coffee pot needed. It made iced coffee that was equal in goodness to Starbucks. Yum!
I'm also an iced coffee whore and it was costing me mega $$ so I've been making them at home as well. Picked up some Starbucks SF syrup, use lots of ice and it's just as good!
I always feel like I am missing out on something when it comes to iced coffee. Other than ice and coffee....what else? Crack?
