There's always some kind of bandwagon to jump on in the land of blogs.
The current bandwagon? Bob Harper's Skinny Rules.
One of my biggest pet peeves is people that jump on a particular teams bandwagon during the playoffs, but you know what? I think this bandwagon might be worth jumping on.
For the most part, I follow most of Bob's rules.
But there are a few that are verrrrrrry challenging for me.
Rule 2: Don't Drink Your Calories
I'm guilty of this every morning in the form of iced coffee.
Rule 7: No carbs after lunch
I eat carbs. I love carbs.
Rule 10: No more added sweeteners, including artificial ones
I'm Diet Pepsi's bitch.
Rule 14: Eat a real breakfast
My breakfast consists of a banana and a coffee
I've decided I'm not going to go all balls to the wall on this. But, I have decided to make a few changes and see how I do. It's going to look a little something like this:
Rule 2: Don't Drink Your Calories
Non negotiable. I'm having that damned iced coffee. I love you Bob, but this isn't going to happen. One iced coffee a day with 1 pump of simple syrup and skim milk is not going to kill me.
Rule 7: No carbs after lunch
I'm going to give this one a try. It scares me to death, and not because I'm a carb whore (well maybe I am?) but because of the limited flexibility for meals. Pasta is a quick "go-to" meal, but so are a lot of other things.
Rule 10: No more added sweeteners, including artificial ones
I haven't had a Diet Pepsi since 12:00 on Wednesday and I haven't killed anyone... yet.
Rule 14: Eat a real breakfast
Enter the breakfast cookie. I used to eat these all the time.
Rule 6: Eat apples and berries every single day.
My snacks today: An apple and a Babybel Gouda and
berries and yogurt. This also helps out with incorporating more protein.
For the most part, I'm a pretty healthy eater... but I do love my convenience foods, and my diet pepsi.
Small changes go a long way and I'm seeing a lot of great results out there with regards to Bob's rules.
...and let's be honest. Look at him.
Clearly he's doing something right. Me-friggin'-ow.

I don't think I could go to bed hungry. Any time I have I end up out of bed about an hour later to munch on something.
I kicked diet pepsi just over a year ago...when I was working in Ottawa if I didn't have one in my lunch I would run over to Esso in my spare 5 minutes to get one. I swear that stuffs highly addictive!
And well, you know how I feel about iced coffee! Mmmmmmm
Very good tricks however, if it were easy, WE wouldn't have obese people on earth now would we?
I also enjoy my diet pepsi.....oh well, we only live once right?
MFO
Well its working for me after only 3.5 days and 1.8 lbs gone. I think the key is the no carbs after lunch and no eating after supper.
I've been Coke Zero free for 3 days. No one has died yet. I'm one sip away from a Coke Zero binge though. Just have to avoid that first sip!
You already know how hard I thought kicking the diet pop thing would be and I have to day, just like everything else, it was not NEAR as hard as I imagined. I experienced NO withdrawal at all and don't feel like I crave it. I'm so surprised. It will be 2 weeks tomorrow! I still admit that I have one splenda in my morning coffee and I have gotten an iced coffee while perusing the mall at lunch with a shot of sugar free hazelnut & blend cream. I'm ok with it because it's not like it was and as long as I have my need for sweets under control, that's truly the main point of eliminating the artificial stuff too - to rid the expectation of hyper sweet all the time.
On the "go to bed hungry thing" - this ironically has never even come to play. I've been so FULL and never hungry from all the fibre and veggies that I have never felt hunger creep up. Isn't this the point of "harper sizing" which he also talks about?
I love carbs too and I felt a little lonesome for some last night at dinner, but I just reminded myself that it isn't forever and it's only during weight loss mode and I went on chomping away at my stir fry sans rice.
I follow quite a bit of those already - I should get better and drink the glass of water before every meal but my water intake isnt bad. I cant forgo my splenda in my coffee - tried but it isnt happenning.
I recently cut wheat which drastically decreased my carbs and sodium and upped my protein. HUGE DIFFERENCE in hunger and cravings.
I can go without my beloved diet pop as long as I have a lot of other options to drink. Right now I love carbonated water.
I also love me my iced coffee!
